| Rasmussen Graves, Oleander Cemetery Galveston, Texas Well, finally this web site has done something good for someone! I was hoping we could maybe do a good deed for someone someday and we have. It all started with an email to me from New York. It seems that Carol, in New York, was working on her family tree and traced some of her relatives, the Rasmussens, to Oleander Cemetery in Galveston, Texas. She said she went to the Internet and typed in "Oleander Cemetery" and there we were! She gave me the pertinents of her story and I was thrilled to say the least! Later, my son, Jason, and I were talking about it and he said, let's go down there and see if we can find the graves. So we went and we did! When we got out of the car, I have to admit that we were feeling overwhelmed. This is a large, very old cemetery and there's no office on the grounds! We were prepared to use a little old fashioned foot work to find them but then, I decided to try something just to see if I would have any luck. I began walking around the cemetery aimlessly and the whole time, I was talking to the Rasmussens. I mean, I was talking out loud. I was saying things like, "Okay, guys, your family in New York wants to find you and that's why we are here." I repeated the name "Rasmussen" several times. I was sweet to them, I called them "honey," which is a habit of mine. I said "please" a lot. And then as I was walking along and I'm still talking to them, my stomach began to tighten up. It was tight enough to begin hurting. Just as I felt that sensation, Jason, was coming around from behind me and he said, "There they are!" I was standing right next to them. When I was exactly even with them, my stomach was so tight, I felt like I needed to bend over. As soon as Jason said "There they are," the tightness in my stomach disappeared. Bam! Just like that! And there they were! We were so excited! I absolutely knew they led us to them. It was so wonderful and I was so happy for their family! For the rest of the day, we just walked around with this warm, fuzzy feeling! We really felt that we had finally helped someone through our web site. So - the pictures that we took are below and, yes, their family in New York are absolutely thrilled! And now, we've become friends, emailing back and forth! And thanks to the Rasmussens, who have crossed over, without their help, we never would have found them! |
